A Message From Our President
Thank you for taking the time to review the PCA's website and thank you for your interest in what we do.
The Packaging Council of Australia (PCA) is an association of companies which produce packaging or associated materials and services in Australia. Our role, in simple terms, is to Represent and Educate.
Representation may be viewed by some as a polite word for "lobbying" however our activities are totally transparent and directly aimed at ensuring State and Commonwealth Government decisions are made with a balance of all relevant facts. The packaging industry is a major employer across Australia and the goods and services that these companies provide ensure other Australian companies deliver their goods within Australia and overseas. Needless to say, the industry pays its good share of taxes and therefore has a right to participate in public debate.
Education is a key focus of our activities and one which attracts much of our time and resources. Everyday, packaging serves to help us in our daily lives. It helps to ensure milk arrives fresh at the supermarket; ensures fruit arrives from the growers undamaged; ensures meat is free from bugs and finger marks. The list is endless - across industrial, foodservice and retail markets, packaging helps to bring products to you.
Packaging's pervasive use in daily life brings obligations on its manufacturers as well as its users. However, packaging is all too often 'unloved' once the goods are purchased and all too often we see packaging littering our streets, rivers, beaches and school grounds. While this is a matter of "littering", it does unfairly make the industry an easy target. Our focus is to educate Australian's future leaders about responsible use of packaging, recycling and reuse, and to help the current leaders keep up to date in a world that needs to become more environmentally responsible.
There is no business in a dead planet' and that is why the PCA is committed to responsible and sustainable growth of this industry.
