WELCOME TO THE 2009 PCA NATIONAL SCHOOLS PACKAGING DESIGN CHALLENGE RESULTS

This year, over 4,200 students from 130 schools registered to submit entries into the National Schools Packaging Design Challenge.

The overall challenge was to design packaging for any imaginary Australian product to sell in Australia.

Students worked either individually or in teams of two and were required to address simple technical considerations, environmental issues, creative design issues and modern society lifestyle choices of consumers and business. A high level of originality, creativity and innovation helped determine the winners.

Each design was accompanied by a rationale. This rationale was the most important part of the entry and judging process, as the judges only judge the physical mock-ups of the eight entries that reach the National Finals for their category. The students’ written presentations told the judges the reasons behind design choices and indicated the students’ understanding of the packaging issues that they addressed.
