The Challenge is to demonstrate a broad understanding of packaging and sustainability issues by completing general research, conducting and analysing experiments and discussing the students design choices in writing. Students must also complete a mock-up of their design. The Challenge is not to design a new product but to design new packaging.

Each design must be accompanied by a written presentation. This is the most important part of the entry and judging process. It must tell the judges the reasons behind design choices and indicate the students’ understanding of the packaging issues that they have researched and addressed.
