		<description>Cardboard – 
Advantages -  it is reasonably strong, easily recyclable, easy to print required information on it.
Disadvantages – not strong enough if something drops on it, can let moisture in, requires extra packaging such as polystyrene to be added to it to protect the product from breaking during transportation

Plastic – advantages – strong, light weight, prevents scratches, prevents moisture getting in, you can see the product from the outside etc
Disadvantages – expensive TV requires total protection and therefore the plastic would needed to be moulded into the shape of the TV which requires thicker plastic which is harder to recycle.

Steel – advantages – strong and reasonably hard to dent.
Disadvantages – very heavy – adds weight to transportation, therefore making the trucks work harder and therefore creating a greater impact on the environment.  Would need some other softer packaging between the TV and the steel to prevent movement and scratching.

Aluminium – advantages – easily recycled
Disadvantages – very big impact on the environment to produce in the first place (mining and electricity), has great qualities for keeping products cool but this is just not that necessary for a TV. Heavier than plastic and cardboard and therefore would have a bigger impact on the environment during transportation than cardboard or plastic. Would need extra packaging to stop movement of the TV within the packaging.

Glass – advantages – you can see the product and it is recyclable.
Disadvantage – breaks far too easily, allows for too much heat to get in – product and glass would shatter before the product got to the consumer – everything would end up in landfill.


The advantages and disadvantages for a dairy product for each of the materials would be something like:

Cardboard – 
advantages -  it is reasonably strong, easily recyclable, easy to print required information on it.
Disadvantages – would need extra coating to prevent the product soaking through the material, , can let moisture in and out increasing opportunities for bacteria etc to enter the product and make the consumer sick, 

Plastic – advantages – strong, light weight, cheap to produce, resealable, prevents moisture getting in and out, you can see the product from the outside, coloured or opaque plastic can help keep sunlight out and temperature down etc
Disadvantages –

Steel – advantages – strong and reasonably hard to dent.
