| 2006 Message from the President
Australian packaging design is alive! The
Award winners you will see inside this
website demonstrate that not only are
we competitive on an international level,
but our future is in good hands.
The number and quality of entries for the 2006 Australian Packaging
Awards for industry and the Southern Cross Package Design Awards
for students have once again proven that these are the premier Awards
to showcase Australian packaging excellence.
The Australian Packaging Awards can be seen as a barometer for the
Australian packaging industry highlighting innovation, sustainability
and quite simply – great ideas. This year we saw over 240 entries
submitted which shows the confidence companies in the packaging
industry have in their own products and abilities. This year new
categories were implemented and existing categories streamlined
which really helped to attract and highlight the best in Australian
commercial packaging.
The Southern Cross Package Design Awards celebrated their twenty
first birthday this year. These Awards encourage tertiary students who
are studying graphic or industrial design to excel and apply the skills
they have learnt throughout their studies, towards real life packaging
issues. This year, 27 educational institutions participated with 400
students submitting entries. The winning entries are exciting in their
creativity and students showed a lot of savvy when it came to tackling
the category briefs. Successful exhibitions were held in Melbourne,
Sydney, Brisbane and, for the first time, in Perth and Adelaide.
Thanks must go to sponsors of the Australian Packaging Awards,
Southern Cross Package Design Awards and the Awards presentation
dinner. Without their ongoing support & continuous commitment,
these Awards would not exist.
To the industry entrants, students and lecturers, it is your contributions
that help to place these Awards at the pinnacle of Australian packaging
design.
A special thanks also to the Judges whose knowledge, dedication and
patience all combine to realise the best in packaging design. This is
never an easy task and we thank them, as well as their companies, for
their time and efforts.
Photos and details of all winning entries are featured on the Packaging
Council of Australia website- www.packcoun.com.au
Congratulations to the winners and to everyone who entered, thank
you for supporting Australian packaging and design and for making
these Awards such a success.
